Empires and Their Units

The seven playable empires, their lasting strengths, unit classes and genuine in-game artwork.

Choosing your empire

When you enter a world for the first time, you choose the Ottoman, Roman, Persian, Egyptian, Hellenic, Spartan or Hun empire. That choice sets the civilisation of your cities in that world, the unit roster available to you and your permanent civilisation modifiers. You may choose differently in another world, but the choice in an active world is not a normal preference that can be switched at will.

Reading the bonuses

Every empire combines economic and military advantages, and some have a balancing weakness. Percentages modify the relevant base calculation; world speed, research and active flag effects are evaluated separately. Do not choose from the highest attack number alone. Consider production, travel, defence, trade, coastal access and the type of conquest campaign you want to sustain.

Unit roles

Infantry and heavy infantry form the land line, while ranged troops create different defensive match-ups. Cavalry and heavy cavalry are useful for fast movement, raids and carrying capacity. Siege units matter against fortified targets. Spies gather information, and conquest units reduce loyalty after successful expeditions so that a city can change hands. Coastal cities also unlock civilisation-specific transports, trade ships and light or heavy warships.

Finding your style

  • The Ottomans favour a balanced army and siege warfare; Rome rewards disciplined infantry and strong walls.
  • Persia focuses on fast cavalry and trade, while Egypt favours production, storage and defence.
  • The Hellenic empire excels in research and naval flexibility, Sparta in close-combat pressure, and the Huns in rapid raids.
  • The cards below show current bonuses, the real civilisation emblems and the same unit artwork used inside the game.

Unit data is read from the live definitions managed by the game. When a balance update changes the roster or attack values, this page changes with it. You therefore see current game information rather than a static promotional table that can silently become outdated.
